Former Corporator Kashif Tanki Convicted in Cheque Bounce Case
A former city council member named Kashif Tanki was found guilty in court for not paying back money he borrowed.
He took a loan from a retired railway worker named Sadiq-ul-Zaman Khan and promised to pay it back with a cheque.
But when Khan tried to cash the cheque, the bank said the account was closed.
Since Tanki didn't pay the money back, Khan's family took him to court.
The judge said Tanki has to go to jail for three months and pay a fine of ₹3.02 lakh.
Tanki says he will fight this decision in a higher court.
Former KDMC corporator Kashif Tanki was convicted in a cheque bounce case by the Kalyan District Additional Sessions Court.
Tanki borrowed ₹2.38 lakh from Sadiq-ul-Zaman Khan in September 2022 and issued a cheque that was returned unpaid due to an account closure.
The court sentenced Tanki to three months of simple imprisonment and fined him ₹3,02,260.
The case was pursued by Khan's widow, Naushad Khan, after his death.
