MNF withdraws support from ZPM in Mizoram's Lai council
In Mizoram, the Mizo National Front (MNF) has ended its alliance with the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) in the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC).
This happened because the MNF was unhappy with the Governor not approving the formation of an executive committee led by the ZPM.
The LADC elections resulted in no single party winning a majority, so alliances were necessary to form the executive body.
The MNF, which won the most seats, had initially agreed to share power with the ZPM.
However, after waiting for three weeks without a response from the Governor, the MNF decided to explore forming a new executive body with other parties.
This decision has caused uncertainty about who will lead the LADC.
MNF withdrew support from ZPM in Mizoram's Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) due to unresolved issues.
The alliance between MNF and ZPM was formed on December 14, 2023, following post-poll negotiations.
MNF cited the Governor's lack of response in approving the executive committee formation as the reason for withdrawal.
The LADC elections resulted in a hung house with no party securing a majority; MNF won 8 seats, Congress 7, ZPM 6, BJP 2, and Independents 2.
The Governor withdrew the order for the election of the council chairman and protem chairman after the MNF's withdrawal.
