Warsh Makes Case for Higher Rates as Committee Splits

Warsh thinks interest rates may need to go higher.

The committee deciding rates is divided about what to do.

Three officials disagreed with last month’s decision.

Two other officials who could not vote also wanted higher rates.

They are worried that prices may keep rising.

They believe tariffs, conflict in the Middle East and large investments in artificial intelligence could add pressure to prices.

They also think strong economic growth could keep inflation high.

This makes it harder for officials to simply leave rates unchanged.
