Tamil Nadu Extends 100% Road Tax Exemption for EVs
The Tamil Nadu government has decided to extend the 100% road tax exemption for electric vehicles (EVs) for two more years, from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2027.
This decision was made after requests from EV manufacturers and industry stakeholders, who noted that EV adoption in the state has been increasing.
The exemption was initially introduced in 2019 and has been extended several times.
The government believes this will make EVs more affordable and encourage people to switch to cleaner and more sustainable transportation options.
However, some experts suggest that more focus should be placed on developing local supply chains for critical EV components.
