Sensex, Nifty decline amid financial stock sell-off
The stock market in India had a bad day on Monday.
Two important numbers, the Sensex and Nifty, went down because people were selling a lot of bank and finance company stocks.
This happened because there are worries about a fight between the United States and Iran.
Even though the big numbers went down, smaller companies did a bit better.
Experts say that if the numbers go up past a certain point, things might get better, but if they go down too much, people might start selling even more.
The fight between the US and Iran is making people nervous about investing.
Sensex declined 443 points (0.57%) to 77,708.52.
Nifty fell 96 points (0.39%) to 24,238.50.
Losses driven by selling in banking and financial stocks.
Nifty MidCap and SmallCap indices gained 0.6% and 0.16% respectively.
Geopolitical tensions between the US and Iran weighed on investor sentiment.
