US Delays China Semiconductor Tariffs to 2027
The US government said China is using unfair methods to become the best in making computer chips.
They decided to punish China by adding extra taxes (tariffs) on these chips, but they won't start doing this until June 2027.
The US started looking into this issue at the end of President Biden's time in office, and President Trump continued it.
The US says China gives too much help to its companies and doesn't pay workers enough.
They haven't said why they're waiting so long to start the taxes.
US Trade Representative found China's semiconductor policies unfair and burdensome to US commerce.
Tariffs on Chinese semiconductors will start June 23, 2027, with the rate announced at least 30 days prior.
Investigation launched in December 2024 under President Biden, continued under President Trump.
China accused of using state support and wage-suppressing labor practices to dominate semiconductor industry.
US has not explained the reason for the 18-month delay in implementing tariffs.
