Punjab MPs demand aid for flood and water crisis
Leaders from Punjab in the Indian government talked about two big problems in their state.
First, they said farmers are suffering because of heavy rains and floods that damaged crops and land.
They asked the central government for a lot of money, Rs 50,000 crore, to help the farmers.
They also said the government promised help but didn't give any money yet.
One leader suggested putting the money directly into the farmers' bank accounts to avoid problems.
About 2,500 villages and 5 lakh hectares of land were affected.
Second, they talked about a water crisis in Punjab.
They said the state has a lot of problems with water, like groundwater depletion, river contamination, and toxic water.
One leader said Punjab is facing a national emergency and needs urgent help from the central government.
They proposed a mission to restore water and make sure people have safe drinking water.
Punjab MPs demanded a special package of Rs 50,000 crore for flood-hit farmers in the Lok Sabha.
Heavy rains and floods in August-September damaged crops and land in 2,500 villages across six districts.
Five lakh hectares of arable land were covered in silt from the Ravi and Beas rivers.
MPs urged the Central government to provide direct compensation to farmers' bank accounts.
The issue was raised during Zero Hour, with MPs highlighting the government's unfulfilled promises of assistance.
