Bayeux Tapestry Returns to Britain, Bringing Medieval History to Life

Bayeux Tapestry Returns to Britain, Bringing Medieval History to Life

The Bayeux Tapestry is a very long piece of cloth covered with pictures and words.

It tells the story of a war for the English throne in 1066.

The main rivals were Harold, the English king, and William, Duke of Normandy.

The pictures show journeys, battles, ships, animals and people from medieval life.

Women in England likely embroidered it with wool thread on linen.

The cloth is nearly 1,000 years old, which makes its survival unusual.

The British Museum is showing it flat, along with animations that explain the scenes.

It came to Britain while its museum in Normandy is being renovated.

After the exhibition, it will return to France.
