Gokul Chinna Thanda Boycotts Panchayat Polls
People in a small village called Gokul Chinna Thanda did not vote in their local elections.
They are upset because they feel their village has been ignored for a long time.
They want their own special village government, but the bigger nearby village has been in charge.
The people say they will vote in other elections but not in the local ones until their demand is met.
They hope that by not voting, they can get the attention they need to make their village better.
Residents of Gokul Chinna Thanda boycotted panchayat elections demanding independent gram panchayat status.
Both Gokul Chinna and Pedda Thandas were listed as panchayats, but Chinna Thanda residents refused to vote.
Villagers allege long-standing neglect and claim Pedda Thanda had previously elected a sarpanch without considering their interests.
The earlier BRS government granted Gram Panchayat status to several tribal thandas but overlooked Gokul Chinna Thanda.
Residents will participate in MPTC and ZPTC polls but continue to boycott panchayat polls until their demand is met.
