IMA Calls for Stronger Laws to Protect Doctors
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) in Andhra Pradesh wants the government to make stronger laws to protect doctors.
The current law, which gives a two-year jail term for attacking doctors, is not strong enough.
The IMA wants a new law that gives a longer jail term.
They also want a special team to check if doctors are being unfairly blamed before police take action.
The IMA has many members in Andhra Pradesh and all over India.
They support all types of medical treatments but say that people who practice traditional medicine should not be allowed to practice modern medicine without proper training.
The IMA also wants the government to pay back money it owes to private hospitals and make it easier for hospitals to get licenses.
IMA AP president Dr. Sangaraju Balaraju urges stronger laws to protect doctors from attacks.
Current AP law prescribes a two-year jail term, which IMA finds ineffective.
IMA demands a national Medical Protection Act and uniform police SOP for medical negligence cases.
IMA wants FIRs to be registered only after scrutiny by a three-member expert committee.
IMA opposes AYUSH practitioners prescribing allopathy without proper training.
