Govt. Promotes Pulses Cultivation to Reduce Imports
The Indian government is helping farmers grow more arhar (tur) and urad pulses.
They're giving out free seeds in certain areas of seven states.
This is because India buys a lot of these pulses from other countries.
The government hopes this will help farmers earn more money and reduce the need to import so much.
If the price of the pulses goes down, the government will buy them at a set price to help the farmers.
The Indian government is promoting arhar and urad cultivation through seed distribution.
The program will be implemented in select districts across seven states: Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Manipur and Tripura.
The National Cooperative Consumer’s Federation of India Limited (NCCF) is managing the seed distribution campaign.
The government will ensure 100% procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP) if market prices fall.
The initiative aims to increase domestic pulses production and reduce import dependence.
