Godavari Levels Rise After 22 Taliperu Gates Open
Heavy rain in a nearby state made a big water project open its gates.
The gates let a lot of water into the Godavari River, making the river higher.
The river level went from about 15.8 feet to 16.1 feet.
The district collector told people to stay away from the river and to be ready for more rain.
He also said hospitals should keep power and that pregnant women should be moved to safer places if needed.
22 gates of the Taliperu irrigation project were opened, releasing 30,000 cusecs of water into the Godavari River.
The river level at Bhadrachalam rose from 15.80 feet to 16.1 feet after the release.
Heavy rains in Chhattisgarh’s upper catchment triggered the gate opening and a forecast of more rain for 36 hours.
District Collector Ankit urged officials to stay alert and warned residents to avoid the river, canals, and streams.
Measures were announced to provide safe drinking water, maintain hospital power supplies, and relocate pregnant women to hospitals.
