Global Leaders Adopt Declaration to Combat NCDs by 2030
Leaders from around the world have made a big promise to fight diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, and mental health problems by the year 2030.
These diseases are very common and cause many people to get sick or die too soon.
The leaders have set some important goals, like helping 150 million more people control their blood pressure and giving 150 million more people access to mental health care.
They also want to make sure that countries have the right laws and medicines to help people stay healthy.
This plan is the most detailed one yet and includes ways to deal with other health problems too, like pollution and the bad effects of too much time on screens.
Global leaders adopted a political declaration to combat noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health challenges by 2030.
NCDs, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and mental health conditions, cause 18 million premature deaths annually and affect over 1 billion people globally.
The declaration sets three global 'fast-track' outcome targets: 150 million fewer tobacco users, 150 million more people with hypertension under control, and 150 million more people with access to mental health care by 2030.
Process targets include 80% of countries implementing policy measures, 80% of primary health care facilities having essential medicines, and 60% of countries with financial protection policies for NCDs and mental health services.
The declaration also addresses additional health issues such as oral health, lung health, childhood cancer, and the risks of digital harms.
