UIDAI Offers Free Aadhaar Biometric Updates for Children
Imagine your Aadhaar card is like a special ID for kids that needs to be updated, especially your fingerprints and eyes, when you're 5 and 15 years old.
Sometimes parents forget or find it tricky to do this update.
So, a big organization called UIDAI is teaming up with smart people from BIT to make it easier for parents.
They will send helpful reminders and make the process less confusing.
To help even more, for one year starting October 1, 2025, it will be free for kids between 7 and 15 years old to get their Aadhaar biometrics updated!
This helps make sure your ID is always correct so you can easily use things like school programs and other important services.
UIDAI is collaborating with BIT to improve the Aadhaar biometric update process for children.
A mandatory biometric update (fingerprints, iris scans, photos) is required at ages 5 and 15.
UIDAI is waiving the biometric update fee for children aged 7-15 for one year, starting October 1, 2025.
The initiative aims to address parental delays and ensure children's Aadhaar records remain accurate for accessing services.
Parents can visit authorized Aadhaar Enrolment Centres with their child's Aadhaar number for the update.

Arguments for Free Updates
Arguments Against Free Updates
Encouraging Timely Updates
Arguments for Free Updates
A fee waiver for children aged 7-15 for one year, starting Oct 1, 2025, removes financial barriers and encourages parents to complete the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) promptly.
Arguments Against Free Updates
While the fee waiver is temporary, the core issue of parental awareness and convenience needs addressing to ensure long-term compliance.
Addressing Parental Delays
Arguments for Free Updates
UIDAI's collaboration with BIT will use behavioural insights to create nudges and reminders, simplifying the process and reducing parental stress.
Arguments Against Free Updates
Reliance on behavioral nudges alone might not be sufficient if systemic issues of access to enrollment centers or clarity of instructions persist.
