India Urges Pakistan to End Rights Abuses in Kashmir

At a United Nations meeting, Indian MP Mahima Kumari Mewar criticized Pakistan over its rule in part of Kashmir.

She said Pakistani forces and their supporters had harmed protesters who were asking for rights and basic needs.

The article says more than 90 people have been killed during the protests.

People were also angry about living conditions, prices, and the use of local resources.

A group called the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee helped lead the protests.

Mewar spoke after Pakistan's representative raised Kashmir, but the article does not explain what he said.

She also said Jammu and Kashmir belongs to India.

At the same meeting, she supported efforts to end colonial rule in remaining territories.
