BJD Challenges BJP Debate Over MMDR Amendment Bill

BJD Challenges BJP Debate Over MMDR Amendment Bill

The BJD is unhappy with a new law about mines and minerals.

It says the law could reduce the money Odisha receives from mining.

BJD leaders argue that states should be able to collect taxes from their own mineral resources.

They referred to a Supreme Court decision from July 2024 supporting states’ rights over mines and minerals.

The BJD says Odisha might have collected Rs 1.5 lakh crore in past taxes.

It also says the state could have received Rs 12,000 crore more each year.

Dharmendra Pradhan rejected the claim that Odisha would lose money.

The BJD wants the BJP to hold an open debate and says it will continue opposing the law.
