Poll Officials Collect Documents From Amartya Sen's Ancestral Home
Election officials visited the ancestral home of Amartya Sen, a famous economist, to collect some important documents.
These documents include his Aadhaar card, voter ID, his mother's death certificate, and a letter giving permission to his cousin to represent him.
This was done because there was a mistake in the form that listed Sen's details.
Sen is currently living in the USA and teaches at Harvard University.
He has been a voter in India and even voted in the 2014 elections.
The officials did not confirm if they also collected a copy of Sen's Bharat Ratna award.
This whole process is part of a regular check to update the voter list in West Bengal.
Election officials collected documents from Amartya Sen’s ancestral home for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Documents collected include Sen’s Aadhaar card, voter identity card number, his mother’s death certificate, and an authorization letter.
The notice to Sen was prompted by a discrepancy in his enumeration form regarding his age difference with his mother.
Sen is currently in the USA, where he is a Professor of Economics and Philosophy at Harvard University.
Sen’s name appears in the 2026 SIR draft electoral list under the Prabasi Bharatiya (non-resident) category.
