Meghalaya HC Orders Animal Birth Control Committees
The Meghalaya High Court told the government to create groups to help control stray dogs in two districts.
This happened because someone filed a complaint about how the state handles stray dogs.
The court wants these groups to follow rules about treating, vaccinating, and caring for the dogs humanely.
The government already has these groups in most other areas.
The court will check on the progress in August.
Meghalaya High Court directs the government to form Animal Birth Control (ABC) committees in two districts.
The court order came in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding stray dog management.
The directive was given on Tuesday.
The government was informed that ABC committees have been constituted in most districts.
The committees aim to implement the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules, 2001.
