New ITR‑BN Form for Block Assessments Effective 2026
The Indian tax authority, called the Central Board of Direct Taxes, has made a new form called ITR‑BN.
It is only for people who get a notice after the tax office searches their house or business.
The form lets them report money they didn’t tell the tax office about before.
It covers up to six years of past taxes.
The form also helps calculate how much extra tax, interest, and fees they owe.
Regular salaried workers don’t need to use it.
The new rules start on April 1, 2026.
CBDT has introduced ITR‑BN, a new return form for block assessments under the Income‑Tax Act, 2025.
The form applies only to taxpayers who receive a block‑assessment notice after a search or seizure under Sections 247 or 248, effective from April 1 2026.
ITR‑BN covers up to six prior tax years and requires disclosure of undisclosed income, previous returns, and assessment status.
The form includes a section to calculate tax payable on undisclosed income, plus applicable surcharge, cess, and interest.
It is not intended for regular salaried taxpayers; it is designed solely for cases involving search‑related block assessments.
