RBI: Bank Credit Growth Slows in June 2025
The amount of money banks are lending out is growing more slowly.
Overall, the growth of loans is down in several areas, including agriculture, manufacturing, and personal loans.
Loans to businesses slowed down a bit, but those to small and medium-sized companies remained steady.
Personal loans, like those for cars and credit cards, are also increasing at a slower pace than before.
This is due to the slowing economy, so less people need the money.
Banks have decreased the number of loans given overall.
Bank credit growth slowed to 10.2% in June 2025, a decrease from 13.8% in June 2024.
Credit demand declined across agriculture, industry, services, and personal loans.
Industrial credit growth decelerated to 5.5% in June 2025, from 7.7% in June 2024.
Personal loan growth cooled to 14.7% in June 2025, down from 16.6% the previous year.
Services sector credit growth moderated to 9.6% due to slower growth in NBFCs.
