Government Updates on Rural Livelihoods and Nomadic Communities
The government has shared updates on two important programs.
First, the DAY-NRLM has formed over 90.90 lakh self-help groups (SHGs) across 34 states and union territories, with West Bengal having the most.
The government is increasing financial support to help these groups.
Second, there are about 15 crore people in India who belong to nomadic and semi-nomadic communities.
The government has set up a special board and schemes to help these groups with education, health, and housing.
However, many of these communities still face challenges, especially in getting the necessary certificates to access benefits.
The government is working to ensure all states issue these certificates so that no one is left behind.
Over 90.90 lakh self-help groups (SHGs) have been formed under the DAY-NRLM across 34 states and UTs.
West Bengal has the highest number of SHGs with 11.92 lakh, followed by Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
The government is increasing financial allocations for DAY-NRLM to support SHGs, with the highest allocation in 2024-25 in the last five years.
India has approximately 15 crore people in de-notified, nomadic, and semi-nomadic communities, facing challenges in accessing welfare benefits.
The government has launched the SEED scheme and set up the DWBDNC to support these communities with education, health, livelihood, and housing.
