Adyar Residents Urge Action on Civic Problems Before Monsoon
People living in parts of Adyar told officials about problems that have lasted a long time.
Sewage keeps overflowing in several streets, and residents say temporary clean-ups do not solve it.
They are worried about walking through the sewage, harm to local shops and mosquitoes.
Residents also raised concerns about traffic, cars parked on roads and vendors blocking pavements.
They asked for action before the heavy monsoon rains.
Minister R. Kumar visited the area to check preparations.
He told officials to finish stormwater drain work before the rains.
He also met residents and asked officials to act on their complaints.
Residents in parts of Chennai’s Adyar zone asked officials to resolve recurring sewage overflow, traffic, parking and street-vending problems before the Northeast Monsoon.
Complaints included repeated sewage overflows on Ambedkar Street, Kaveri Street and near a men’s hostel on Kalakshetra Road.
Residents said sewage, pavement encroachments and roadside parking were affecting pedestrians, local businesses and traffic.
