Prakasam Barrage Discharges Floodwater as Inflows Surge
Heavy rain caused a lot of water to flow into the Prakasam Barrage.
This water came from dams upstream on the Krishna River.
To prevent flooding and keep the barrage safe, officials opened 69 gates to release the excess water into the sea.
They also diverted a small amount to canals.
Water levels at the barrage are being carefully monitored, and the high inflow of water is expected to continue for some time.
The Srisailam, Nagarjuna Sagar, and Pulichintala projects are also managing large volumes of water.
Prakasam Barrage received over 3 lakh cusecs of floodwater.
69 gates were opened to release water downstream into the Krishna river.
Approximately 276,250 cusecs were released into the sea.
9,547 cusecs were diverted to Krishna Eastern and Western Canals.
Officials expect high flood flows at the barrage for several hours.
