Asian Games Clash Forces India To Rethink ODI Squad
India has two cricket assignments happening at almost the same time.
The West Indies ODI series starts on September 27.
India’s men begin their Asian Games campaign with a quarter-final on September 28.
Because some players are expected to play at the Asian Games, they may not be available for the ODI series.
This means selectors may need to choose players outside their usual ODI combination.
Rishabh Pant could get another chance because Ishan Kishan may be unavailable.
Dhruv Jurel is also being considered as a wicketkeeper.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal and possibly Tilak Varma could use the series to show they deserve places.
Established stars including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill are still expected to add experience to the ODI team.
India’s West Indies ODI series begins on September 27, one day before the men’s Asian Games quarter-final.
Shreyas Iyer will captain India’s Asian Games team, which includes several players from the recent ODI setup.
Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Shiv Dube, Arshdeep Singh and Ishan Kishan are expected to miss the West Indies ODIs.
Ishan Kishan’s absence could reopen the ODI wicketkeeper debate involving Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel.
Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal could receive opportunities, while Tilak Varma may also enter selection discussions.
