World Elephant Day: Seven Human-Like Behaviours That Make Elephants Extraordinary

Elephants are very smart and friendly animals that live in big family groups called herds.

World Elephant Day, celebrated on August 12, is a day to learn about how amazing they are.

When an elephant is upset, its friends come close and touch it with their trunks to help it feel better.

If an elephant dies, the others stay near the body and sometimes come back to visit it later.

Elephants also help herd members who are hurt, staying close and trying to help them walk.

They have very good memories and can remember other elephants even after many years.

Baby elephants love to play, chasing each other, splashing in water, and wrestling with sticks.

Grown-up elephants play too.

Elephants also work together to solve problems and stay safe from danger.

That is why people celebrate these gentle giants on World Elephant Day.
