Mamata Banerjee seeks opposition unity against BJP in Bengal
Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), recently called for unity among opposition parties like the Congress and CPI(M) to fight against the BJP in West Bengal.
She made this appeal during the Martyrs’ Day rally, which commemorates the deaths of 13 Youth Congress workers in a police firing incident in 1993.
Banerjee accused the BJP government of using state machinery to target opposition leaders and filed around 14,000 cases against TMC leaders and workers.
She also alleged that the BJP was pursuing policies that hurt hawkers, mid-day meal workers, and beneficiaries of welfare schemes.
The BJP, on the other hand, denies these allegations and claims that legal actions are taken based on evidence.
The rally was marked by a notable shift in the TMC's tone, as it has historically been bitter rivals with the Congress and the Left in the state.
