India Proposes Mining Law Overhaul for Mineral Supply Chains
The Indian government is changing mining laws.
They plan to create a $1 billion fund to buy important minerals from other countries.
They will also set up online marketplaces to buy and sell minerals to make it easier and fairer for everyone.
A fund that finds minerals will be renamed and used to explore and develop mines and minerals, including outside of India.
Mining companies will contribute more to this fund.
The new laws will also make it easier to mine rare minerals and sell extra waste.
This aims to secure resources and boost the economy.
India plans a $1 billion fund for acquiring overseas mineral blocks.
The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025, was introduced.
The bill aims to establish mineral trading exchanges for transparent trade.
The National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET) will become NMEDT, with expanded scope.
The bill also incentivizes extraction of critical minerals and addresses environmental concerns.
