Meenakshi Seshadri Revisits Indian Cinema’s Mother-in-Law Stereotypes and Family Conflict

Meenakshi Seshadri talked about how movies often show mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law fighting.

She remembered her 1990 movie Ghar Ho To Aisa.

In that film, she played Seema, a daughter-in-law who stood up to unfair treatment.

Bindu played the mother-in-law who treated her badly.

The movie used jokes, dramatic scenes and karate to show their conflict.

Seshadri also recreated a song from the movie called “January February.”

She said she hopes real mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law can have a loving relationship.

She would like them to care for each other like a mother and daughter.
