US Caribbean Strike Kills Four as Scrutiny of Campaign Continues

The US military says it attacked a moving boat in the Caribbean Sea on Sunday.

It says four people were killed and calls them “narco-terrorists.”

The military said the boat was on routes used to smuggle drugs and that it had intelligence about the boat.

It did not show evidence that this particular boat was carrying drugs.

The US government says its campaign is meant to stop drugs from reaching the United States and to prevent fatal overdoses.

Reports give different totals for deaths in the campaign: one says more than 220, while another counts at least 235 in 70 strikes.

Human rights groups and UN experts say the attacks may be unlawful.

A UN expert said there were reasonable grounds to believe the attacks could amount to crimes against humanity of murder.
