LIC Confident of Recouping Lost Ground in Policy Sales
LIC, a large insurance company, sold fewer policies in the first half of this year compared to last year.
This happened because they had to change some of their insurance plans to follow new rules, and some people waited to buy policies because taxes were going to be reduced soon.
This caused a big dip in the number of policies they sold.
However, LIC's leader said that sales have improved a lot since October.
They are working hard to sell more policies in the second half of the year.
They believe they can sell as many policies as they did last year by the end of March.
They also plan to focus on selling policies with higher value to boost their earnings.
LIC recorded a 21% year-on-year drop in new policies sold during the first half of FY26.
Product modifications due to regulatory compliance and a surge in sales in September 2024 impacted H1 FY26 figures.
The implementation of GST exemption for life insurance business from September 22, 2025, caused a pause in policy purchases.
LIC's market share by first-year premium income decreased to 59.41% in H1 FY26.
LIC is confident of recovering sales performance by the end of FY26 and expects substantial growth in the second half.
