Bengal mulls modified land pooling, private shares for landowners

Bengal mulls modified land pooling, private shares for landowners

The government of West Bengal wants to bring new factories and businesses to the state.

In the past, forcing farmers to give up their land made many people very angry.

So the new government says it will not take land from farmers anymore.

Instead, a company will buy the farmer's land at a fair price.

The company will also give the farmer a small part of the company, so the farmer can earn money from it later.

This idea comes from other parts of India, like Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh.

The government's job will be to help bring the farmers and the companies together.

Some people worry this will be hard because Bengal farmers have very small pieces of land, so many farmers would have to agree.

Also, farm workers called sharecroppers, who grow food on other people's land, could lose their jobs and may say no.
