FSSAI Notices Delhi Hotels Over Expired Food, Pests
India’s food-safety regulator inspected two luxury hotels in Delhi.
The hotels were Andaz Delhi and JW Marriott in Aerocity.
Inspectors said Andaz had expired food, including about 87 kilograms of sweets.
The sweets were thrown away.
They also reported cockroaches, flies and other hygiene problems at Andaz.
At JW Marriott, inspectors reported insects, spoiled food, dirty equipment and food that was not stored properly.
They also found problems with licences and food labels at JW Marriott.
Samples were taken, and the regulator will decide what happens next after testing and checking the hotels’ reports.
FSSAI issued notices to Andaz Delhi and JW Marriott in Aerocity over alleged food-safety and hygiene violations.
Inspectors found about 87 kg of expired sweets, an expired cake base and expired bread packets at Andaz; the sweets were discarded.
Andaz reportedly had cockroaches, flies, mosquitoes, spider webs, duplicate date-marking and poor food segregation.
JW Marriott was cited for cockroaches, fruit flies, spoiled or fungus-affected food, dirty surfaces, exposed food and possible cross-contamination.
FSSAI collected samples from both hotels and said further action would follow laboratory analysis and compliance reports.
