Uttar Pradesh Floods Worsen as Evacuations and Relief Expand

Heavy rain has caused serious flooding in many parts of Uttar Pradesh.

The latest government update said 23 districts were currently affected.

It also said more than 16,000 people had been moved to safer places.

Three people died when structures collapsed during the rain, including an 18-month-old boy.

Rescue teams saved about 150 people trapped near the Mandakini river.

In Ballia, rising rivers affected about 20,500 people.

Flooding also closed some schools, covered a bridge and disrupted electricity at a hospital in Pilibhit.

Officials are using boats, shelters, food, medical teams and other supplies to help people and are warning residents to move from dangerous areas.
