Noida Sanitation Workers Strike Over Pay, Jobs and Insurance

Noida Sanitation Workers Strike Over Pay, Jobs and Insurance

About 300 sanitation workers in Noida have stopped working for three days.

They clean streets and collect garbage.

They want permanent jobs, higher monthly pay, and medical insurance.

They are asking for Rs 25,000 each month instead of about Rs 18,000.

The workers say contractors can remove them when contracts change.

They also say money for insurance is taken from their salaries.

The Noida Authority says it hires workers through contractors and cannot directly employ all of them.

Garbage collection has been disrupted while both sides discuss what may happen next.
