North Sikkim Road Reopens After Four Months, Restoring Lachen Link

A road leading to Lachen in North Sikkim was closed for four months.

It reopened on Saturday after workers repaired the damaged section near Taramchu Bridge.

The road is important because it connects Lachen with the rest of the district.

The route had previously been damaged by a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood in October 2023.

It was repaired in February 2026 but became blocked again in April.

General Reserve Engineer Force workers spent four months fixing it.

The work was completed without any reported deaths.

More safety work is planned for the road and bridge in October.
