Haryana panel issues notice to police over civil dispute arrest
The Haryana Human Rights Commission (HHRC) is upset with a police officer who arrested someone in a family fight.
The Commission says the police used the wrong rules and didn't follow the correct process.
They think the police officer was unfair and abused his power.
The Commission wants the police officer to explain why he did this and also wants the police chief to say if the person who was arrested should get money for what happened.
The Commission will hear more about this on February 25.
The Haryana Human Rights Commission (HHRC) issued a showcause notice to a police officer for allegedly misusing BNSS provisions in a civil dispute.
The Commission found that the conditions for invoking Sections 126 and 170 of the BNSS were not met in the case.
The dispute was purely civil in nature, with no apprehension of breach of peace or likelihood of a cognizable offence.
The Commission observed that the police officer's actions reflected a partisan approach and abuse of power.
The police officer and the Superintendent of Police, Bhiwani, have been directed to submit their explanations before the next hearing on February 25.
