Telangana Sarpanch elections see high nominations
The State Election Commission in Telangana has started the process for electing village leaders called Sarpanches and ward members.
There are 4,236 Sarpanch positions and 37,440 ward member positions to fill.
People can submit their nominations until November 29, and voting will happen on December 11.
In some villages, leaders are being chosen without an election because everyone agrees on the same person.
This is called a unanimous election.
The government has also set up a special team to handle any legal issues that come up during the elections.
Some villages have only one family that can be Sarpanch or ward members because of special rules, so they will be chosen without an election.

In the first two days, 8,198 nominations were filed for Sarpanch posts and 9,643 for ward offices.
The last date to withdraw nominations is December 4.

Some villages, like Tejapur, have already elected Sarpanches unanimously.
A Special Legal Cell has been established to handle court cases related to the elections.
