India-EU UPI-TIPS Link Aims to Simplify Cross-Border Payments
India and Europe are working together to connect their payment systems, UPI and TIPS.
This link aims to make it easier and cheaper for people to send money between the two regions.
Currently, sending money across borders can be expensive and slow, but this new system could allow real-time transfers with lower fees.
It would benefit students, workers, families, small businesses, and tourists.
However, for this to work well, both sides need to avoid adding extra fees or too many rules.
The goal is to keep the system open, affordable, and easy to use, setting a good example for the rest of the world.
India and the European Central Bank are linking UPI with Europe's TIPS system to facilitate real-time, low-cost cross-border payments.
The link aims to reduce high bank charges, hidden fees, and long delays currently experienced in cross-border transactions.
Beneficiaries include students, workers, families, small businesses, tourists, and merchants who will experience faster and cheaper transactions.
Potential threats to the success of the link include fee creep, regulatory overreach, and lack of interoperability.
The system's success depends on maintaining low fees, interoperability, and seamless data flows, avoiding bureaucratic hurdles.
