Calcutta HC Reinstates 32,000 Teachers
The Calcutta High Court has decided to keep 32,000 primary school teachers in their jobs.
These teachers were hired in 2014 but had their jobs taken away last year because there were some problems with how they were chosen.
The court said that not all of the hiring was unfair and that taking away their jobs after nine years would hurt the teachers and their families.
The court also said that only a few of the teachers (360) were hired in a bad way, so it's not fair to punish all of them.
The teachers can now keep their jobs, but the court might look into the hiring process again to make sure it's fair.
The ruling party, Trinamool Congress, sees this as a big win, while the opposition BJP supports the earlier decision to cancel the appointments.
A division bench of the Calcutta High Court reinstated 32,000 primary school teachers whose appointments were cancelled in 2023.
The initial cancellation was due to alleged manipulation in the 2014 Teachers' Eligibility Test recruitment process.
The court found that irregularities were not proven in all cases and that removing the teachers after nine years would have a severe impact on their families.
The CBI identified only 360 appointments with irregularities out of the 32,000.
The reinstatement is seen as a political win for the ruling Trinamool Congress ahead of the upcoming state elections.
