Railway Projects in Northeast Faced Over Rs 200 Crore Losses
The Indian Railways lost over 200 crore rupees in the last five years because of floods and landslides in the Northeast, which damaged train tracks and other structures.
The government considers the risk of these events when planning new railway lines in the region.
Before building railways in places like Manipur and Nagaland, they study the land to understand the risks of landslides.
Currently, there are many new railway projects happening in the Northeast, including lines to connect Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim to the rest of the country.
Indian Railways suffered over Rs 200 crore in losses in five years due to Northeast natural disasters.
Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated geological factors are considered in railway project design.
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone manages these projects.
