Rajasthan Proposes Educational Criteria for Local Polls
The Rajasthan government wants to bring back rules that say people running for village leader or city councilor jobs need to have certain school qualifications.
The village leader needs to have finished secondary school, and the city councilors need to have finished either secondary or senior secondary school.
This idea is waiting for the chief minister to say yes.
Before, in 2015, there were similar rules, but they were removed in 2019 by a different government.
Now, they want to bring them back and will change the laws to make it happen.
Rajasthan government proposes educational qualifications for Panchayati Raj and urban local body elections.
Village heads need at least secondary grade education, ward councillors need secondary or senior secondary.
Proposal awaits Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma's approval.
Amendments to Panchayati Raj Act and Municipalities Act required for implementation.
Similar criteria were introduced in 2015 but reversed in 2019 by the Congress government.
