AICWA Challenges Proposed 570 Percent Entertainment Tax Hike

AICWA Challenges Proposed 570 Percent Entertainment Tax Hike

The BMC wants to greatly increase the entertainment tax paid by the film industry.

The proposed increase is 570 percent.

This proposal comes before the films Ramayana and King.

The All India Cine Workers Association, or AICWA, says the taxes should be reduced.

Gupta from the association plans to meet Fadnavis on September 28.

He said the group may protest if the government does not listen.

Trade analyst Atul Mohan said it is too early to know how the proposal will affect films.

Mohan believes reported box-office figures may have made the government think the industry can afford higher taxes.
