EU Designates Iran's IRGC as Terrorist Group
The European Union (EU) has decided to call Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) a terrorist group, similar to groups like Islamic State and al Qaeda.
This decision was made because the IRGC has been very strict and violent against people protesting in Iran.
The EU's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, said that the EU will not ignore such repression.
Israel, which has been pushing for this decision, welcomed it, saying it will help stop the IRGC's activities in Europe.
However, Iran is not happy with this decision and says it is a mistake that could cause more conflict.
The EU also put sanctions on some people and groups in Iran for human rights violations.
Even with this tough stance, the EU says it will still talk to Iran.
In response, Iran plans to designate the armed forces of EU countries that blacklisted the IRGC as 'terrorists'.
EU foreign ministers designated Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.
The decision was made in response to the IRGC's role in the violent crackdown on anti-regime protests in Iran.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated that repression cannot go unanswered and that the EU will not ignore such actions.
Israel welcomed the move, calling it historic and saying it would make it easier to prosecute IRGC members.
Iran criticized the EU's decision, calling it a major strategic mistake that could fuel conflict in the region, and plans to designate EU armed forces as 'terrorists'.
