Delhi Traffic Restrictions Planned During BRICS Summit Delegations
Delhi is preparing to host an important BRICS Summit.
The meeting will take place at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13.
Leaders and other foreign visitors will begin arriving around September 10.
Their cars will travel on special routes through parts of Delhi.
Police may briefly stop or divert regular traffic to let the visitors pass safely.
This could make journeys longer, especially in central, south and southwest Delhi.
The Egyptian delegation will stay in Saket, while nine other delegations are expected to stay in central Delhi.
Traffic police have suggested moving the Egyptian delegation to central Delhi because roads around Saket are already crowded.
Traffic in central, south and southwest Delhi is expected to be affected from September 10 to around September 14.
The two-day BRICS Summit will be held at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13.
Traffic arrangements may affect movement on at least 22 arterial roads.
Nearly 4,800 traffic personnel have been deployed to manage delegations and dignitaries.
Police are concerned that the Egyptian delegation’s Saket accommodation could worsen congestion on already busy south Delhi routes.
