Senior homes in India are redefining life after 60

Senior homes in India are redefining life after 60

In India, some grandparents are choosing to live in special homes that are more like fancy hotels than old-age homes.

A couple named Bijit and Rashmi Sehgal built one such home, with 16 apartments, in the hill town of Kasauli.

The residents enjoy meals cooked by chefs, yoga and meditation, organised walks, billiards, barbecues and musical evenings.

There are also nurses, doctors and a nearby hospital in case anyone needs medical care.

These senior-living homes can have swimming pools, gyms, libraries, restaurants and walking tracks, along with safety features like non-slip floors and emergency systems.

Some grandparents rent their apartment, while others buy it.

The number of Indians aged 60 and older is expected to grow from 153 million in 2020 to 347 million by 2050.

Because of this, companies are building more and more senior-living homes across Indian cities.

These homes let grandparents keep their independence and enjoy life, while help and company are always nearby.
