Critical 2025 Financial Deadlines Approach

Critical 2025 Financial Deadlines Approach

As 2025 comes to an end, there are several important financial deadlines to keep in mind.

Car prices are set to increase on January 1, 2026, so buying a car before then might save you money.

The government also reviews interest rates for savings schemes like PPF and NSC around this time, so contributing before the new rates are announced can lock in higher returns.

If you haven't filed your income tax return for the last financial year, you need to do it by December 31, 2025, or you might face penalties.

Experts also advise reviewing your expenses, securing health and term insurance, organizing your financial documents, and adding nominees to your accounts.

Businesses have their own set of deadlines, like linking Aadhaar with PAN and filing GST annual returns.

Taking care of these tasks now can help you avoid problems and save money in the new year.

Additionally, the Income Tax Department is reminding PAN card holders to link their PAN with Aadhaar by December 31, 2025, to avoid their PAN card becoming inoperative.

The deadline to file belated or revised income tax returns for FY 2024-25 is December 31, 2025.

After this date, taxpayers must use the more expensive updated return route.

The Income Tax Department has sent alerts to taxpayers whose refunds are withheld due to mismatches.

The department has also cautioned against treating the updated return as a substitute for timely compliance.

For those aiming to minimize penalties, protect refunds, and avoid unnecessary tax outgo, December 31 remains a deadline that cannot be ignored.

The Centralised Processing Centre has until December 31, 2026, to process ITRs for this year.

However, taxpayers do not get additional time to file revised ITRs if their returns are not processed by the CPC by December 31, 2025.

As of December 28, 2025, around 70 lakh ITRs are still unprocessed.

If you miss the December 31 deadline to file a revised ITR, you will not be able to revise it anymore.

However, you can still file an Updated Return under Section 139(8A) for up to four years, but with higher tax and interest.
