Iran Claims Hormuz Control as Trump Announces Venezuela Oil Deal

Iran Claims Hormuz Control as Trump Announces Venezuela Oil Deal

Iran says it controls the Strait of Hormuz and will not allow ships through without coordination.

The Strait of Hormuz is an important route for ships carrying oil.

US officials have said the waterway is open, but Iran says that claim is untrue.

Iran also asked countries not to follow new US sanctions.

Iran’s foreign minister said talks with the United States could still happen if pressure was dropped.

Separately, Donald Trump announced a major oil agreement with Venezuela.

Trump said the deal gives the United States majority control of more than 65 billion barrels of proven oil reserves.

His administration said the deal could lower gasoline prices and help Venezuela’s economy recover.
