Nara Lokesh Reaffirms 34% BC Reservations in Local Bodies

Nara Lokesh, a minister in Andhra Pradesh, said his party supports reserving 34% of local-government positions for Backward Classes.

He said the Supreme Court was expected to give an update on the issue on Friday.

Lokesh thinks the election timetable will come after that decision.

He said local elections may happen in October.

He criticized the YCP for naming a candidate for mayor in Nellore before reservation rules are settled.

He said the party would consider nominated jobs after the elections.

He also said corporation chairpersons’ work would be checked before deciding whether to renew their positions.

Lokesh said reservation spots should rotate.
