RBI keeps Tata Sons in upper-layer NBFC list, listing in balance

RBI keeps Tata Sons in upper-layer NBFC list, listing in balance

In India, the central bank is called the Reserve Bank of India, or RBI.

The RBI watches over companies that lend money or invest in other companies.

Some of these companies are so big that a problem with them could hurt the whole country's money system.

The RBI puts those big companies on a special list, and being on the list means extra rules.

One of those rules is that the company must sell shares on the stock market.

Tata Sons is a huge company that owns many other well-known companies.

Its assets are far above the limit that puts a company on the list.

The RBI says its rules are now based on clear principles, so any company that meets them is included.

The RBI has put Tata Sons on its new list of 17 big companies.

Many experts think that means Tata Sons will have to sell shares on the stock market.

However, Tata Sons has asked to be removed from the special list, and the RBI has not yet decided.

If the RBI says yes, Tata Sons may not have to sell shares after all.
