Tulu Mondal moves Calcutta High Court to quash FIR

Police in a place called Birbhum found a lot of gold and money — almost Rs 50 crore worth — hidden in a house.

They said the house belonged to a relative of a man named Tulu Mondal.

The police say Mondal is part of a group that digs sand and stone and sells them illegally, often called the 'sand mafia'.

After the cash and gold were found, Mondal disappeared and has not been seen in public since.

Mondal went to a big court in Kolkata, called the Calcutta High Court, and asked the judges to cancel the police case against him.

His lawyer, a famous advocate named Mukul Rohatgi, said the case was not fair and called it 'mala fide'.

The judge, Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya, agreed to listen to the case on August 20.

Mondal wants to appear in court in person to explain his side.

Meanwhile, a leader named Suvendu Adhikari said the crackdown on mafia groups will continue.
